Important Note: This script guide is only for X735 V2.5 shield based on RASPBIAN. (Not tested on Ubuntu, openmediavault or other OS.)

There are 4 version of X735: V1.0, V2.0, V2.1, V2.5 (final version): Version 2.5(Updated and release at April 2021):

Some new features of X735 v2.5:

• Use the silent PWM cooling fan, and support fan speed is control by script, support read fan speed, and we provide sample python code.
• You must install shell script to enable the PWM fan work fine since it's a PWM fan, refer to X735 V2.5 Software
• Support TRUE AUTO ON function (in the old version,the power management function is disabled if AUTO ON is enabled)
• Considering that some customers use X735 together with other DAC shield, we adjusted the GPIO pins used.
• Please install shell script to get safe shutdown function, refer to X735 V2.5 Software
• No any size changes.

Update History:

1. On March 15th, 2021, we release the final version X735 V2.5 which use the silent PWM cooling fan, and support fan speed is control by script, support read fan speed, and we provide sample python code.
2. On November 8th, 2019, we release the newest version X735 V2.1, change jumper 'FAN_HS' to 'AUTO ON' function; as we found 'AUTO ON' function is more useful to user.
3. On August 12th, 2019, it updated to X735 V2.0: add the TYPE C port to POWER the Raspberry Pi 4; (remain the other DC, MICRO USB and XH2.54 power port), and also compatible with Raspberry Pi 3B+ and previous versions.
4. On April 13th 2019, we firstly release the X735 V1.0 board.

• The Raspberry Pi board,X820 board and X850 board are all not included in the packing list.

Overview

The X735 is a multifunctional expansion board for all current models of the Raspberry Pi using a 40-pin header. It provides intelligent and safe power management, safe shutdown and full poweroff through software, an automatic temperature controlled fan which enables the use of the Raspberry Pi in extreme conditions including very high temperature environments.

The X735 safe shutdown board is fully compatible with our Raspberry PI 4 X825 V2.0; X825 V1.5, X857, X862, X872, X835, X832,X829, X828, X820, X850, X860, X870,X822,X852 to provide intelligent and safe power management.

Why upgrade X735?

• All thing is for the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B.
• X735 is upgaded to V2.1 now, we change jumper 'FAN_HS' to 'AUTO ON' function; as we found 'AUTO ON' function is more useful to user; we also reserved the TYPE C power port for Raspberry Pi 4 model B.
• The X735 V2.0/V2.1 not only supports raspberry pi 3 b plus (include previous version) but also supports the latest Raspberry Pi 4 Model B.
• In fact, X735 V2.0/V2.1 can have more performance.
• The X735 2.0/V2.1 works seamlessly with the X825, a PI4-based expansion board that supports 2.5-inch SATA hard drives, to build your NAS storage center. At the same time, considering that you need a matching shell, we have also developed a honeycomb chassis that can support X735, X825 and Raspberry Pi 4 at the same time. We named it X825-C2.
• At this point, you already have a mini linux working host.
• Because X735 V2.0/V2.1 add a type-c port, so it not fit to X850 V4.0 metal case, unless to remove the type-c interface on the X735 board, or open a port on the X850-V4.0 case for type-c.

FAQ

Q: Why the X735 V2.5 cooling fan not rotate after the installation?

• Answer:You must install shell script to enable the PWM fan work fine since it's a PWM fan, refer to X735 V2.5 Software on Geekworm WiKi.

2.What if I connect the x820 XH2.54 5v to the IN of the X735, and then connect the power supply to the x820. Will the safe shutdown work?

• Answer: This is no suggested, because power supply for X820 cannot be controlled by X735 and safe shutdown won't be implemented as well. You need to power from the X735 5V IN DC port.

3.Does the X735 power board work with the rock64 board? is the 40 pin connector compatible with the rock64 40 pin connector?

• Answer: In fact, we didn't test X735 based with ROCK64, and we didn't consider ROCK64 board when we wrote a safe shutdown shell script, so we think X735 is not compatible with ROCK64. Also the PIN definiton of ROCK64 is different with Raspberry Pi. So it is not suggest to use X735 board with ROCK64.
